Statement of Commitment
​
We believe that:
• The Health & Safety of all workers and visitors is paramount
• Serious Incidents are preventable
• We are all responsible for ensuring our workplace is healthy & safe
• All workers have a responsibility to stop any job they believe is unsafe
​
We will look out for the safety of our colleagues and others.
BCS is committed to providing a workplace that enables all work to be carried out safely.
We will take all reasonably practicable measures to eliminate or minimise risks to the health, safety and welfare of workers and contractors while they are at work, and that the health and safety of Other Persons (e.g. visitors) is not put at risk from our work We are committed to ensuring that we comply with the Health and Safety at Work Act 2015 (t(HSWA) and all associated Regulations. We will also follow any other relevant legislation, applicable Codes of Practice and NZ Standards.
The H&S Policies & Procedures Manual and BCS’s H&S policies and procedures set out the safety arrangements and principles which are to be observed by BCS and its workers, to ensure compliance with the HSWA and to provide appropriate mechanisms for consultation and management of H&S matters, with a view to ongoing improvements in BCS’s Health & Safety performance and culture.

Implementation of Policy Commitment
This will be achieved by:
• providing and maintaining a healthy and safe work environment through the implementation of safe work
practices, safe systems of work and the provision of safe plant and equipment
• ensuring that workplaces under BCS’s control are safe, are without risk to health, and have safe means
of access and egress
• ensuring we are not negatively impacting the environment in our work
• routinely engaging and consulting, to maintain effective and co-operative relationships between BCS and
its workers, and with other duty holders, on health and safety matters in the workplace
• auditing and reviewing, through appropriate mechanisms, the effectiveness of the safety measures
taken.
BCS’s commitment to providing safe and healthy working environments for its workers includes:
• providing relevant, up-to-date H&S information to all workers on matters such as workplace safety and
individual responsibilities
• providing workers with instruction and/or training in work processes appropriate to the work undertaken
• developing and implementing strategies which include workplace assessment, hazard identification, and
appropriate remedial action to eliminate or control hazards
• implementing and keeping appropriate information, reporting, statistical, and analytical systems
• Accurate, timely and honest reporting and recording in health and safety matters, supported by a noblame culture
• Supporting an active and engaged Health & Safety Representative system
• Formally recognising excellence in health & safety management & innovation by workers via regular
awards, and regular and timely positive reinforcement.

A safe working culture is the responsibility of everyone, and this can be best achieved and continuously improved through the co-operative efforts of all.
